English 11 course anthology
A complete poem for close reading, discussion, and writing.
The photograph gives everyone a coat, a place to stand, a winter afternoon. The label gives the mill its owner’s name. My aunt is “woman, unidentified.”
I write her name in pencil on a card. The letters lean as if they carry weight. A name is not the life it asks us for. It is a door we have arrived at late.
