The Coordinate Plane — Drills
The Coordinate Plane has 4 drill skills. Each one generates fresh questions every time, with a hint and full worked steps, so you can keep practising a single skill until it settles.
What these drills cover
These questions use 5 ideas from the course. Follow any of them for a definition, where it is taught, and what it leads to.
- Mean — Two kinds of centre: the balance point, and the middle value.
- Origin — The point (0, 0), which every proportional graph passes through.
- Perimeter — Distance all the way around the outside.
- Area — Space inside, measured in square units.
- Quadrant — One of the four regions the axes divide the plane into.
Quadrants
Unlimited questions of this kind are generated in the app. Two examples:
Problem 1
In which quadrant is (-6, -9)?
- I
- II
- III
- IV
Worked answer
III
x is negative and y is negative
That is quadrant III
Problem 2
In which quadrant is (4, -5)?
- I
- II
- III
- IV
Worked answer
IV
x is positive and y is negative
That is quadrant IV
Reflect
Unlimited questions of this kind are generated in the app. Two examples:
Problem 1
Reflect (6, 2) across the x-axis.
Worked answer
(6,-2)
(6, -2)
Problem 2
Reflect (-7, -1) across the y-axis.
Worked answer
(7,-1)
(7, -1)
Distance
Unlimited questions of this kind are generated in the app. Two examples:
Problem 1
How far is it from (8, -3) to (8, 6)?
Worked answer
9
6 - (-3) = 9
Problem 2
How far is it from (-1, 0) to (-1, 5)?
Worked answer
5
5 - (0) = 5
Reading the graph
Unlimited questions of this kind are generated in the app. Two examples:
Problem 1
A point is 8 left and 7 up from the origin. Write it as an ordered pair.
Worked answer
(-8,7)
(-8, 7)
Problem 2
A point is 2 right and 6 down from the origin. Write it as an ordered pair.
Worked answer
(2,-6)
(2, -6)
