1

An ecosystem model joins organisms with their physical conditions. A food-web arrow commonly points from resource to consumer to represent transfer, while a causal arrow can point in a different convention. State the key. Energy enters and eventually disperses as heat; elements move among reservoirs and can cycle. Production per area and time is different from a snapshot of standing biomass.

2

Biodiversity has several dimensions. Two communities can share species richness while one is dominated by a single species. Retain counts, calculate proportions and name the precise diversity-index convention. A larger index does not automatically establish every ecological function, cultural value or conservation outcome. Mechanisms, organism traits and environmental context matter.

3

Population evidence also has an observation process. A quadrat count must be divided by actual sampled area; a whole-habitat estimate needs representativeness. Detection, season and effort can change counts without the same change in true abundance. Exponential and logistic curves are conditional models; the logistic rate is instantaneous and a fixed carrying-capacity parameter is not a permanent ecological ceiling.
