Le Châtelier's principle — Science definition

If a system at equilibrium is disturbed, it shifts in the direction that partially counteracts the disturbance.

Where it is taught

In use

The real power of equilibrium comes from being able to move it on purpose, and the rule for doing so is Le Châtelier's principle: if you disturb a system at equilibrium, it responds by shifting in the direction that partially undoes your disturbance.
