Speaking, Presenting & Responding — Drills · Grade 8 English

Chapter: Discussion, Listening & Presentation

What these drills covers

By the end of Speaking, Presenting & Responding you should be able to:

2 questions, written answer, each with a worked explanation.

Vocabulary used: evidence, interpretation, qualification.

Problem 1

State the method in your own words, then apply it to one fresh detail.
Answer and explanation

Plan a presentation around purpose, audience, a clear claim or explanation, and a small set of well-chosen evidence. Spoken structure needs signposts listeners can follow. Show an actual application before considering the method recalled.

Use the criteria to compare your reasoning, not to copy the model’s wording. A supported alternative interpretation may earn full credit.

Response criteria

  • Make an accurate, focused claim or revision.
  • Use a relevant detail or a clearly explained language choice.
  • Explain the relationship and recognize a relevant limit.

Problem 2

Correct this mistake in one or two sentences: “If I cannot answer a question, I should invent a plausible fact.”
Answer and explanation

State what is known, identify the gap, and propose how to check it. Honest uncertainty is part of a credible presentation.
