Sufficient evidence — English definition
Defined in 2 courses:
- Enough relevant, strong evidence to reasonably convince a reader that a claim is true. (English 8: Trust, Community & Responsibility)
- Enough credible, representative evidence to actually carry the weight of the claim. (English 10: Choices, Conscience & Consequences)
Where it is taught
- Evaluating Arguments & Evidence — Argument & Rhetoric, English 8: Trust, Community & Responsibility, Grade 8
- Analyzing Arguments — Argument, Rhetoric & Tragic Choices, English 10: Choices, Conscience & Consequences, Grade 10
In use
Sufficient evidence means having enough relevant, solid support to reasonably convince a fair-minded reader — so if a writer claims 'video games improve memory' and backs it with a single study of just ten people, that falls far short of a claim that broad.
