Parent plan · Week 18 · Midterm preparation, paper and feedback — Physical Science: Matter, Forces & Energy
Parent teaching plan · 36 weeksUnits to teach or revisit
Chapter 4 · Forces
Assigned readings
Use this week to synthesize earlier learning and evaluate readiness rather than add another compressed lesson.
This week’s goals
- Explain the assigned questions using named mechanisms and relevant records.
- Read the labeled figures and distinguish observations from inferences.
- Revise an explanation after checking its evidence and assumptions.
Read the chapter launch and assigned unit sections on their linked lesson pages. Keep the launch model and return to it after each new evidence comparison.
Five flexible sessions of about 40–45 minutes. Formal papers may join consecutive sessions; take the stated total exam time. Slow down and replace a flex task with reteaching when evidence of understanding is incomplete.
Session 1 · Midterm preparation
This is a consolidation or assessment session using content already taught. How can forces explain stability and changes in motion?
Your task
Review Chapters 1–4 using the coverage table; explain a different case for each weak idea. Do not use the answer key during the paper.
- Identify the assigned question and allowed references.
- Attempt the explanation or paper before reading answers.
- Check evidence, labels and units.
- Record feedback and the next correction.
Hint and response guidance
Use the assigned unit’s figures, captions and worked examples. Identify conditions and units before choosing a relationship.
The first twenty units cover matter, phases, chemistry and forces.
- Use relevant evidence.
- Explain the mechanism.
- State a limit and next step.
Session 2 · Midterm paper — first 45 minutes
This is a consolidation or assessment session using content already taught. How can forces explain stability and changes in motion?
Your task
Begin the 90-minute midterm. Keep the stated reference sheet only and save work for the next consecutive session.
Independent work is assessed afterward against each question’s three criteria.
- Use relevant evidence.
- Explain the mechanism.
- State a limit and next step.
Session 3 · Midterm paper — remaining 45 minutes
This is a consolidation or assessment session using content already taught. How can forces explain stability and changes in motion?
Your task
Finish the same 90-minute paper, with total time recorded. Do not open answers between the two portions.
The two sessions form one paper; opening guidance between them would change its assessment conditions.
- Use relevant evidence.
- Explain the mechanism.
- State a limit and next step.
Session 4 · Human marking and corrections
This is a consolidation or assessment session using content already taught. How can forces explain stability and changes in motion?
Your task
Compare every response with the worked key. A parent marks each stated criterion and selects two errors for reteaching.
A model answer is guidance rather than a required matching sentence; valid equivalent reasoning earns the criterion mark.
- Use relevant evidence.
- Explain the mechanism.
- State a limit and next step.
Session 5 · Reteach and readiness conference
This is a consolidation or assessment session using content already taught. How can forces explain stability and changes in motion?
Your task
Explain a changed version of each weak case and revisit your chapter models. Record the next learning goal.
Correct understanding is demonstrated by a new explanation and transfer, not merely copying the key.
- Use relevant evidence.
- Explain the mechanism.
- State a limit and next step.
Submit this week
- Dated notebook entries and the assigned evidence or graph work.
- An attempted model, revised model and the evidence behind the change.
- Practice corrections or a human-reviewed assessment, as assigned.
Parent / teacher weekly conference
Start with the learner’s own explanation. Ask which record supports each claim, and which condition could change it. Check units, graph axes and model limits. Use supplied data without claiming it was experimentally measured at home. An oral explanation or accessible drawing can substitute for extended prose when it shows the same reasoning.
- Can the learner explain the core mechanism without copying?
- Can they read the new figure and identify a limit?
- Which error needs a different explanation or worked example next session?
